Lifetime Colour Warranty

Most gold plated jewelry has a shelf life. A few weeks of showers, sunscreen and perfume and the colour starts to dull, the edges go coppery, and the piece you loved ends up in a drawer. That is not bad luck. It is what happens when a thin layer of gold sits on top of brass or copper.

Every Selene piece is built the other way around, and this page is our commitment to that in writing.

What your jewelry is made of

We start with 316L surgical grade stainless steel, the same grade used for medical implants. No copper, no brass, no lead and no nickel, which is exactly why it will not turn your skin green and why it is suitable for sensitive skin.

On top of that goes 18K gold, bonded using PVD, or Physical Vapour Deposition. Instead of dipping the piece in a plating bath, the gold is bonded to the steel in a vacuum chamber at high temperature. The layer that comes out is many times thicker than standard plating and it is fused to the metal rather than resting on it. That is the whole reason this jewelry can be worn in the shower, in the sea, in the pool and at the gym.

What this warranty covers

This is a warranty on the colour and finish of your jewelry. It is not a general product warranty and it does not replace your statutory rights or our standard 30-day Refund Policy, both of which apply in full alongside it.

We cover the gold or silver finish of any Selene piece against:

  • Fading or loss of colour
  • Dulling of the finish
  • Tarnishing or discolouration of the finish
  • The finish flaking, peeling or wearing through to the base metal

There is no time limit. If the finish on a Selene piece fails, you can claim, whether that is six months or six years after you bought it.

What you get

On an approved claim you choose one of two outcomes:

  • A free replacement of the same piece, shipped to you at no cost, or
  • Store credit to the value you paid for the item, to put towards a replacement of your choice

You do not pay shipping on a replacement, and you do not pay to send the affected piece back if we ask for it.

What is not covered

So that this warranty means something, here is exactly where it stops:

  • Lost or stolen jewelry
  • Pearl discolouration, as pearls are a natural material and age differently
  • Normal wear and tear, including surface scratches and minor dents
  • Damage caused by impact, accidents, misuse or improper storage
  • Damage caused by contact with harsh chemicals such as bleach, solvents or jewelry-dipping solutions
  • Items altered, resized or repaired by anyone other than Selene
  • Free mystery items and promotional gifts

Conditions

  • The item must have been purchased directly from selene-jewelry.com. We can look your order up by the email address you ordered with, so you do not need to keep a receipt.
  • Please keep the affected item until your claim is closed, as we may ask for it back.
  • Store credit issued from a warranty claim is calculated on the amount actually paid for the original item, including any discount applied at the time. It is intended for a replacement, cannot be combined with other discount codes, and is not refundable for cash.
  • Jewelry received as a gift is eligible for store credit rather than a refund.
  • A claim can only be declined on one of the grounds listed under "What is not covered" above, and if we decline a claim we will tell you which ground applies and why.

How to claim

Email support@selene-jewelry.com with:

  • Your order number, or the email address you ordered with
  • Which item is affected
  • A description of the problem
  • A photo of the piece showing the issue
  • Your current shipping address

We respond within 24 hours on business days, and we aim to reach a decision on your claim within 3 business days of receiving your photos. Once a claim is approved, your replacement is dispatched within 1–2 business days.

Keeping it looking new

The warranty exists so you never have to think about this, but a little care goes a long way. Rinse with fresh water after salt water or chlorine, dry with a soft cloth, and store pieces separately so chains do not scratch each other. No polishing, no dipping, no special products.
